My lovely site (hopefully)

Obviously, not starting back at uni until January, nothing's confirmed yet but this is my intended thesis project site and initial blurb (technical term).

Site Choice: Cane Hill (& Coulsdon Town Centre)

Rather optimistically, I visited the site a few weeks ago with a couple of companions.  Although security fences (and signs) were present, public footpath signs appeared to contradict them.  As did the other pedestrians and horseriders we saw.

Sadly, the security guard had fixed ideas and we were gently, but firmly, escorted in the direction of the nearest public road.  I must admit, I was impressed that he didn't stall his car's engine as we slowly sauntered back up hill, dutifully tailed by an unsmiling man ...   Still, it was slightly mollifying that three casually strolling women could be seen to be a threat to security ... and we'd already covered most of the obviously accessible ground anyway.

Unfortunately, due to chatting and generally clambering about, completely failed to take any photos (was going to do that on the way back - that's an important lesson to re-learn - you may only get one chance!).  So I've shamelessly borrowed from other sites (thank you) just to provide some initial images ...

Both the GoogleEarth images are dated 2009 and still show remains of buildings, in addition to the surviving water tower and chapel, still standing on the old hospital site on Cane Hill.  The distinctive footprint of the hospital complex remains clearly visible.

Looking forward to the new term ... and fingers crossed on the financial front!
